What DE's allow keeping the windows closed safely?

Then the problem is the pointing rule..
Besides, if I'm going to be asked to take a hand off the wheel and stick my arm out the window I could do so just as well hitting the electric window switches before and after, no need to drive around in a fast car with the windows open all the time for the rare occasion that you'd want to point anyone by. They can police the pointing and leave the "how" up to the driver.

Why don't we just band together and start our own HPDE org. Every driver gets to pick their own rules. Instructors ONLY for slow cars (say under $100k), windows up or down, blinkers, hand signals, or yelling allowed for point bys, and Starbies at the drivers meeting.

Don't forget that everyone should get a comfort blanket for signing up and a trophy after completing the day.

To be fair, many racecars running in professional race series have emergency egress hatches, etc. that most cars running in HPDE don't. Hard to make a direct comparison on the window rule.

Just ran Sebring 3 days windows up, sharing the car with a friend who chose to leave the passenger window down, no window cracks thankfully.
Love the windows up, no head wobble

Exactly. Because it's not safer nor more effective to use the hand than a blinker. So I'm wondering why some want to drive with the windows down and point their hands out the window - to feel more like racing?
We definitely try to pound it in at the driver's meeting that DE is not racing.
Again, I'm in the camp to give people the option - drive windows up or down, point or blinker, your choice. Unfortunately most clubs mandate windows down and point. I can't find any medical or engineering studies have shown windows down is safer. Haven't seen any research to show that a hand is more effective than a DOT regulation blinker. So why do the clubs have the mandate without scientific rational for their decision?

Seems that there may be a misunderstanding here. Racers dont point. The trailing car if faster can and will pass them if/when possible. When racing, nobody needs to point nor flash a turn signal. They just pass. Doesn't matter whether the window is up or down.
As such, its tough to figure out how a DE guy following the PCA rules with his window down feels more like he is driving a race car by reaching his hand out the window to point when racers don't.
