When I voted this is not how I expected to be right.

I think that was a sign that the team knew Hamilton was never just ceding the position and there was a nonneglible chance of a double DNF. That's where the fierce competitor thing bleeds into terrible teammate territory.

I agree and that is why Bottas will always be a number two driver. Bottas is really talented but he lacks that killer instinct.

He's still not worth it and won because Vettel threw it away and the team told Vallteri to back off. Bottas had the fresher tires and would have won the race if allowed to. That being said, Mercedes did the right thing IMO and let Hamilton get the win because at the end of the season, those points will matter.

What was Ferrari thinking when she came up on Kimi? There was only one Ferrari driving who could win that race

Late breaking news: The FIA has just summoned Hamilton and Mercedes over the pit lane entry that he aborted. A similar violation was completed by Kimi in 2016 and he was penalized at the same track. A similar penalty would take the race win away and move Bottas to 1st.

Is it too much to think Merc leadership saw that possibility and used Bottas to manage the gap from Hamilton to Kimi to preserve the 1-2?

It's ok. Mercedes must've spoken to some folks.

Fun race. Poor Seb, wet gravel must be slippery.

I can usually predict who three of the top five finishers will be. I don't even try to predict who'll be on the top step of the podium.

Wasn't the 2016 European GP in Baku, Azerbaijan?

When I said it was Seb's race to lose I didn't mean he should throw it away....

And the pit lane decision is about as bogus as it gets.

As I feared - the home race was a curse. Poor Seb. It's going to take a lot to recover from that one. He was being positive saying that he knows he has a good car.

Kimi crossed pit entry at speed attempting to draft and pass a red bull if I remember correctly. He intentionally used a part of the track drivers were warned not to use or they would be penalized to gain an advantage.
