I'd say pretty good, if not top-level....Montoya and Young Jacques did it, and, oh, so did Danica

Verstappen is too young to handle that pressure well and Horner knows this... Redbull would probably love to have Fernando, but also do not want to lose who they see as their future. Now then... Honda probably doesn't want him and he certainly would need to see proof that they are a winning engine before putting faith in them again.
I agree with everything you said. And let's not forget the internal chaos when the "Fernando is faster than you" come across Massa's radio... Massa had patience learning behind Michael Schumacher and let's not forget that he was literally 2 corners away from Timo Glock conceding the position to Hamilton away from being a world champion himself. If Massa had been WDC, would that call have been made from the pit wall??

Why not? If he should win the Indy 500, he will still need the Daytona 500 to complete his rèsumè.

I expect to see Alonso in IndyCar. And not just for the 500, but for a whole season. Now that is going to step up the growing popularity of IndyCar big time. I can't wait!

Frankly it’s an odd time for Alonso to depart, McLaren reliability issues aside, given the expected homologous path of F1 under Liberty’s ownership. If the field is evened out as the cars become more equal then Alonso’s driving skill should see him regain podium form. I suspect there’s more to his decision to ’retire’and my guess is possibly (1) contract dispute and/or (2) stank attitude causing teams to shy away from him. It doesn’t help to have one of your drivers repeatedly bashing your engine sponsor or race team!

Based on Alonso's timing of past team moves, what are the odds the McLaren is the class of the field next year?

Nil with him, and still nil without him.

I think the bigger issue is if Zak Brown makes it through the entire year, this year and/or next, be it McLaren's choice or his own.....he's a very wealthy man who clearly doesn't have to deal with all this crap if he chooses not to.
