Michael Fassbender: Road to Le Mans

Well a GT3 Challenge (equivalent to what Fassbender is doing) race weekend in the states is a $40k+ price tag when all costs are factored in. Adding in Porsche factory support and EU costs jacks that price up another level, and that's not factoring in any crash repairs which Fassbender is clearly deep into.
I'd guess he'll be into it for around $500k for an eight race season.

Such great viewing. Looking at the videos on the porsche channel on YouTube the Fassbender series is their most viewed by far. Whatever the deal is $ wise porsche are getting good exposure.
I dare say most people would struggle
to do as well as Fassbender in the drivers seat…even with all his crashing.

And keep in mind, Fassbender has a decent amount of experience for an AM. The past 4 years he has been running a full schedule with the Porsche Factory team, and before that he was racing Ferrari challenge. Most people cant even handle the capabilities of a 992 Cup, let alone an RSR with LMP cars wizzing by in total darkness.

Its a fantastic series and great overall, however this last season particularly Fassbender has been painful to watch. Pouting, complaining, with a consistent negative attitude. He makes the whole thing seem like a chore and sucks the joy out of it for himself and those around him. Having a guy like that on the team would get very old. He needs a performance coach or it will never matter how much seat time he gets, his mentality just isn't there.

I agree about the whining this season. I don't know if it's just the editing trying to make things dramatic but it's been painful to watch at times and had to be a drag on the team. After the LeMans practice crash I was really surprised no one just said "We're here, the car is here, the crew is here. We're not going home. So sack up and drive." He would really benefit from the sports psychologist. His teammates would also benefit from not having to fill that role so they could focus on their own performance.

I think I just watched that episode, first one of the new season? Anyway, yes, I agree, way to much drama for crashing in a practice or qualy session. I don't know the background of the team, but at first they didn't know if they could get a spare chasis to continue. That and the painful agonizing seemed a bit too much for me, but I'll admit I've never raced or much less crashed a valuable car like that. I like the guy and admire him for taking on driving and taking it very seriously.

I have watched this series since it came out. Generally a great watch and fun to see the team progress their way to LeMans. Agree the focus on Michael's whiney-ness of the past couple episodes is tiresome. He needs to suck it up. It does seem like it's pre-planned or amplified for the "drama" of the series, which is dumb.
