Some have made it every year for more than a decade and date back to when Steve and Debbie ran the event. It's when they see friends they don't see the rest of the year. They were ready to go.

The reason why they don't buy the official reason for the cancellation is principally because in the letter Narigi sent out to all entrants announcing the cancellation of the "big" event (the Reunion week and weekend), he said that there would be a smaller, private event August 8-9, the two days typically reserved for the Pre-Reunion. He said that people who had been accepted for the Pre-Reunion and the Reunion would have first shot at being "selected" to be invited to attend. All others would receive their entry fees refunded.

Then, he went on to say that accommodations and restaurants would be open and plentiful during that August 8-9 weekend for entrants who wished to attend that private event in place of the Pre-Reunion.

He would know because he was head of the hotel and hospitality advisory council for the county when he ran the Monterey Plaza Hotel for more than 25 years.

The fact that the long-time Pre-Reunion and Reunion acceptance committee quit en masse a month or so ago was due to disagreements with Narigi and the management team's approach to operating the event. A real rupture, there.

Really disappointing. Something stinks...

Does anyone know what is in the contract that they can't come to an agreement about? The article says the volunteers shut off the negotiations. Aren't they kind of holding a gun to their own head? "Do what we want or we will force you to shut the track down". I'm sure that's not what they are trying to do, but that's the affect its going to have.

The fix is in. The board of sups chose their pal to run the track. Step one of shutting it down.

POC canceled for this weekend shared with Speed Ventures (?) some POC guys still went.

Ferrari North America moved their Challenge July 24 date to September 27. FWIW

so some guys got track time in albeit with one crew member and one family member and no guests etc.

wonder how it’s going up there?

im doing Calclub DE at BW for $125 for two days abbreviated early schedule on June last weekend.

Wealthy locals not liking the nuisance of a racetrack + substantial financial incentive to re-purpose the land = bad for longevity of the track

Thank goodness for Thunderhill and Sonoma
x2. LS is fun, but it's a little scary at times with all of the barriers

LS isn't nearly as scary as Sonoma.
Regardless it is a legendary track and it will be a shame for it to go the way of the dodo because of money hungry local officials and developers.

Absolutely no doubt. I enjoy watching IMSA races there, but now with the GTLM news... it might be awhile until I go back.

Scramp never did develop any real relationship with the business community on the Pennisula, at least not folks that could support them or more importantly, push back on the supes and have some real influence. You never saw packed chambers when it came to LS other than the scramp folks, but they lacked the political influence that the stronger business community members could have brought to the table. When I talk about scramp I'm not talking about the hundreds of hard working volunteers, it's been the various scramp board of directors over the years that have failed the track. The workers are great, but they could not make up for the short falls of the directors, which is well documented.

Think about it, the track brings in massive amounts of money to the community, but there is a disconnect given how many people benefit from the track, where are they? . That's odd given how long scramp was involved with the track, over half a century, and yet it appears that there were minimal relationships that were developed that could have helped them when push came to shove with the county. They seemed to be like an island. And one that did not appear to be very well liked either. .

It's a shame since we are seeing the result of them not developing the necessary partnerships with the business community with the result a degradation of a facility and six decades of history fading away for what, a few condos, or high end residences that a handful of people will be able to afford.

come to the SCCA race at the end of July. SCCA had a great event a couple weekends ago, when they combined their regional with the Majors..... this next one is an opportunity to visit a fantastic track with a great field of racers.. see you there if you make it out!!
