Default Trailer Safety Chains

A 2004 Ford F-350 pickup, with two occupants, towing a 30-foot camper trailer, plunged off a bridge in Idaho.
But the truck...and the passengers...were saved by the two trailer "safety chains." The stuff of nightmares.

Holy crap! Never thought about safety chains serving that purpose, but glad to hear they held ...

Wow. Could you imagine dangling there looking down 100 ft.?
You'd be whimpering like a baby by the time they rescued you.

Wow. Almost like the scene from the movie "Breakdown".

So things like this do happen outside of Hollywood.

There is a distinct difference between "a change of shorts" and no recovery to the shorts, pants, seat etc. This would be the later IMHO!!!!!!

Hmm, the trailer might buff out. Does he need new chains or can those be reused?

Impressive that those two dinky chains managed to hold onto a 6000 lb dynamic load. Also impressive the chain attach holes held up as well. They look substantial for a trailer safety chain, but I wouldn't want to pick up and sling around my truck with them!

He is probably also grateful he went for the 30 footer instead of economizing on the 25 footer for the trailer - the whole thing could have easily gone over the side.

I believe that’s where “go big or go home” came from.

Kudos to the first responders.
People that get in there to save others like that are very special.
