I just got myself a new SNELL 2020 and my old helmet is now sitting next to my even older helmet, collecting dust.
What are you guys doing with your old/expired helmets?

Donation to PCA region (example GGR) for AX loaner.

Not sure whether that approach would be possible with Covid virus around, but one could check the web site(s) and/or ask AX chairs.

I put my 1970 Snell approved helmet at the end of my corner with a "Free" sign and it disappeared. I gave my 2010, which still had a couple of years left , to my local PCA Club.

Old helmets I keep, but expired go in the trash.

AX guys need them for loaners.
pretty sure they accept them for another 5 years after PCA/SCCA/IMSA

SNELL recommends replacing helmets after 5 years. Most organizations go by the certification sticker because it's really hard to enforce age, but if it's a helmet you've worn a lot, it's going to wear out before it ages out, even if it's not technically in violation of tech rules yet.
