Do you use Head & Neck restraint device?
On the pelicanparts board this topic has generated a lot of discussion but I was wondering what everyone here thinks and does.
Should one use a head and neck restraint system for DEs or club races?
Do you use one, as I think most of us would answer "yes" to the first question?
Which do you use and why? Seems like the main choices are HANS and Issac, with Issac appearing to edge out HANS due to it being easier to extricate a person wearing that system.
I am looking to purchase one and need help deciding.

I don't have one yet, but am getting ready to order one. I should have it before my next race.
IMHO the only two real choices are the HANS and Isaac. Perhaps the G-Force if you have one of their helmets.
My reason for choosing HANS is because IMHO tethering directly behind the head instead of at the shoulder harness is more effective. I'm also less than fond of having to remember to pull the pins to exit the car.
You asked and those are my decisions and why. Hopefully this discussion will not cause a holy war.

I use the Isaac.
But as the the Isaac engineer guy pointed out on the Pelican thread, there's no such thing as a bad head and neck restraint. All of the well-known models reduce the risk of whiplash-type injuries to some extent.

Geo, I think, asked on another thread (that is now much too long) if anyone had actually bought and read the SAE report. Yes, I did. The report evaluated 3 devices. If I understood the report correctly only one of the tested devices accomplished the goal: HANS. And, it was not even close. The Isacc was not one of the systems evaluated.

OK - here goes -
I bought a HANS this year and have used it at 3 events so far. I'm happy with the ease of use. I bought it because I was able to stop in to the manufaturer, based here in Atlanta, and discuss the system prior to purchase. I felt comfortable with the endorsements by the major race organizations, and the research that I did.

I purchased my HANS 2 months ago,along with the Schroth HANS compatible 6 point harness. My new car has a full cage with thru the bulkhead bracing to the front suspension points, therefore the crush zone is reduced increasing the need for a head restraint.
Besides,my wife said my racing days were over unless I purchased the HANS !
My opinion is go with a product that is proven. How many pros wear anything other than a HANS?

Hey All;
I have researched this extensively, and have decided I will be purchasing a HANS sometime this summer. I have test fit one in my car and am impressed with its relatively seamless performance. The two things that tipped me over the edge in its favor -vs- belt systems were;
1) Good for life, assuming no damage. Expensive up front, but cheap over the long haul.
2) The LEAST cumbersome to install, but even more importantly, when OUT of the car. Zoop and it's off! Zoop, and back on. No fiddling, no adjusting.
Having survived Richie Hearn's 130g hit does nothing to dissuade me either.
