Default Shane Lewis - IMSA - at WGI with CVR

The IMSA teams came rolling into the paddock last Tuesday while all of us from CVR were still there. Shane Lewis, who is an all around awesome guy, walked around the garage talking to all of us and it was the highlight of a decent two days at the Glen.

Someone let him drive a 996 Cup for a bunch of laps and it was cool to see him tearing around the track.

It started raining so we let him pull his Mercedes AMG GT3 car into the garage and he gave us a tour. The car was so cool in person. I thought I have a bunch of switches and buttons in my Cup but his car was like a fighter jet. He sat there for probably 45 minutes explaining everything to us. His enthusiasm, even as a professional race car driver, was so genuine that it made me smile.

While a few of us walked across the paddock with him two of his crew drove by in a car and one said to Shane "did you find any three-legged dogs?" I realized what they meant and said "do you do this a lot? take people on tours?" He laughed and said that was what their joke meant.

I'm not a "fan boy" type of guy but when I got home I was poking around and while he didn't have a real website all it had was his email address. I thought, what the hell, and sent him an email on behalf of CVR thanking him for spending about 2 hours of his time with us. He responded the next day thanking us for the hospitality. A true gentlemen!

Great ambassador for the sport! And a heck of a world traveler when it comes to pro sports car racing!

Shane is one of, if not, the coolest guys in any paddock he is in. I spent a few years around him in TA2. He is a gentleman, very talented driver, and all around nice guy. He loves racing!

+1 for Shane -- super nice guy and fast too. We shared a sleeping container in Dubai a couple years ago.

He could be a back of the pack driver and still be a huge asset to a brand/team, great ambassador! We'll be rooting for him.

How'd ya like this in your mirror..

I was there as well , what was interesting was Shane's excitement and passion for the sport. He mentioned more than once how fortunate he was to drive these great cars. He was like a kid with a new toy. Here is a pic from cockpit which explained all the buttons ! LOL
