Default Vettel & Mansell’s FW14B

So cool. Brings back memories. If only modern F1 cars sounded remotely close to this or revved as high.

The design was so simple and beautiful back then as well.

Super cool. Mansell drove it at Goodwood Festival last week.

Stunning!! IMO one of the most beautiful F1 cars ever. Also one of the most dominate F1 cars as far as pace I’ve ever seen. Took 15/16 pole positions (14 for Nigel Mansell and 1 for Riccardo Patrese) frequently qualifying 1-2 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Mansell won a then record 9 times in a season (could of won more had the reliability been a little better and was unlucky at some races) and still holds the record for the highest percentage of pole positions in a season.

I believe Vettel drove a different chassis than the one Mansell drove at Goodwood. The one at Goodwood is owned by the Williams team and the one Vettel drove I think is his personal car (acquired by him in 2020).

Interesting video on FW14 active suspension. Note the issues with porpoising at the time.

Good to know. It's correct for sure the one Vettel drove at Silverstone is one of his collectables he has acquired over the years. Vettel also collects and restores vintage motorcycles.

It was very cool. Love that era of cars. Vettel remarked how open and free he felt in the cockpit.

You have to watch the video on YouTube unfortunately due to FOM copyright. Click the “Watch on YouTube” on the video to watch it.

A great era of race cars; ‘Our Nige’ was my hero for many years! lol

But boy just by looking at the open design you can see how modern drivers are so much better protected; it’s doubtful Zhou would have survived his crash in that era car, and Grosjean wouldn’t have survived his inferno a couple of years back.

And Senna would still be with us.

Yeah I'm getting used to the halo as a necessary evil... you can name several, including Henry Surtees, Justin Wilson, of course Aryton Senna, who would still be with us. You wonder if the spring that hit Felipe would have hit the center strut or still hit him even with the halo as I remember it hit him off center.

Actually Seb driving the old Williams was almost the best part of the weekend! And actually lots of interesting people, without the stupid celebrities (other than Cruise) on Martin's grid walk, including Nig!
