Default Advice for my first 24hr race at VIR

So i am doing the 24 hr race with champ car next month. First one.. should be fun! So most important question.. the rules say 4 lights.. well can I run light bars? How much light is available there? Specifically for drivers changes.. thinking i should add some interior lights so we all can find our belts and radio hookups at 2 am… any other advice is appreciated…

You fill find that during night driving a big problem will be the lights from people behind you so try to darken your mirrors. With respect to exterior lights angle them into the corners so you can see the apex. For driver changes use one of the stick-on battery powered lights that you can turn on by pressing on it and stick it to your roof.

I drove the 14 hour AER race at NJMP last year and did the sunset stint. As the sun went down it got so dark I could barely see the track until I realized I had a tinted visor.

Luckily I realized it a few laps in. If you are driving at night remember to change to a clear visor.

I'll see you there.

I ran a Miata in Chumpcar in 2012-2013 before coming to my senses and going to PCA Club Racing..

I lost my senses again and have been building a Champ Boxster and will be there for the 24.

I chose to put factory Litronics in my Boxster, unfortunately they can't be aimed at the Apexes but they're bright as heck. Low beams with the fogs on will help point the Apex's but we'll see.

sounds good.. ill be in a 924 a great bunch of guys out of canada “ hard no” racing… we did watkins and lucky dog in calabogi..i went with LED h4 bulbs and going to put two driving lights down low the rules say 4 bulbs but do they actually think people buy filliment bulbs now? Also adding a secondary factory style rear-view mirror i can tilt the racing mirror down 90 degrees and slide the factory one in its place to prevent glare.. i think at night you dont need the detail cause you see where the lights are..

Awesome, see you there! We'll be there with a few Hondas and Acuras (HART + Team Honda Research West). We're a little late to the lodging game, though, does anybody have any suggestions nearby?

All teams run light bars, one facing front and two off to the side to see the apex. Yes, they're flipping bright. Make see you can adjust your mirrors for night racing.

We have these lights mounted on the bumper and pointed to the sides.

we have been having an rv dropped off at the track its for the whole team plus you dont have to leave the track not sure what the rental fee is but considering the cost of 5 hotel rooms x 3 days it makes sense.

and thank you paddy for the light info

I've used racers tape across the rear window, in horizontal stripes, with 2" gaps. masking the entire rear glass. - You can see enough between the gaps in daylight, and blocking most of the light helps keep your night vision.
I also have some strips of tape on the windshield or roof that I can move to block the sun, for the sunset/sunrise.
I also had 2 lights in a X pattern to light the corners. vs 1 each side.
GL!

Good advice! I like it.. so how many 2”open strips did you have ? I was thinking of maybe tinting a piece polycarbonate to attach in front of the rearview mirror.. or flip it down and attach a factory type mirror for the night…
