I have been bought drinks and a dinner ( once). At a non- PCA DE I was given a whole $20.00. Big money, sarcasm intended, btw the way, this was at a certain f-car event.

Been offered and refused.
Don't know any PCA folks who’ve taken tips.

Right seat risk is known but job is rewarding. Polite tip refusal and redirection maybe, " thanks, suggest to the club, organizer, or a chariy if you want, word of mouth always appreciated." There is already often compensation such as free registration, lapping, or direct fees. Asking for tips is outa line.

A polite thank you is my reward when a student improves and had a safe and fun day at the track
If a tip other than buy low sell high was offered I'd politely refuse
If I was a paid pro instructor I'd likely do the same and as instead please tell a friend

If you mean a volunteer led, non-profit driver education event run by a region or chapter of a club, it’s still in bad form.

A few years ago I was instructing at WGI and took my student out in my car for a whole session to show him the track and talk him through the various corners.
Later in the day I was on a business call, lost track of time, and was 5 minutes late for his session. Aside from a one time bad breakfast burrito I have never been late for student.
Even though I apologized he got pissy with me and said I was unprofessional and instructors are "paid" because of our discount. I told him that on certain days I would rather pay more money to not have to deal with running back and forth between cars and that almost all instructors do it because they want to give back, not because of the discount.
What set off this tirade was my telling him that his belts were installed incorrectly on his harness bar! To this day, he is the only negative attitude student I have had.

Student: “Why are you 5 minutes late? I paid a lot of money to be here and you are being very unprofessional by not showing up on time for me.”
Luigi: “ Come on man. The hookers weren’t finished yet and there were still a few
lines left on the mirror.”
