What's the stance on tipping HPDE instructors?
I was reading the discussion where it was claimed an instructor at a pec outright asked for a tip.
So that got me to thinking about a different type of event. Generally hpde is a $200+- trackday and knowing what it cost back when to rent a track, ins, ambulance, etc., and the number of cars on track, I assume instructors aren't paid and I haven't heard anything one way or the other.

I’ve never had a PCA instructor state that they were offered a tip and until this thread appeared, I’ve never even thought about it. Without it being stated, every PCA instructor knows that you are there to “give” and not take.
That being said, I was at a racing school many years ago and it was suggested that tipping was protocol. I did and the instructor was appreciative, but as a PCA instructor I would not expect nor accept a tip. If my student enjoys the weekend and I can see that they improved on the track, that’s rewarding enough.

I have seen people come up to instructors with a tip but those have all been refused. That being said I have to admit to taking an offered water while going over the session with a student.

I've been offered water, food, cigars, and beer once the track is cold, but never cash. Maybe I need to do a better job to be offered cash?

To be clear, I mistakenly wrote pce when pec is correct, but I hoped I was clear it was not an hpde coach.
All the years I was an mc instructor there was no thought of tipping but I didn't know if the Porsche car world was different and there were a couple of times I felt after the fact that maybe I'd ****ed up by not tipping.

Ah! PEC instructors, like many pro schools and manufacturer experience programs, are paid slave labor daily rate so if you particularly enjoyed it or received more value than expected, by all means. It would be appreciated, I’m sure.
<edit> I reread your post and a PEC instructor (or any other program instructor) asking for a tip would be fired, if their employer found out. Bad form.
