Go Kart Youth Coaching (ideally NY/NJ/CT area)
I have a 8 year old who is highly interested in cars/karting. He's done a fair bit of indoor karting and he's hungry for more. He has the more basic of basics down of finding/driving the line etc.
I had previously seen a one-week kids karting summer camp at autobahnspeed indoor carting where they spend time on the basics on and off track. I was planning on sending him there but the camp was cancelled this year due to lack of interest.
Does anyone have a program they can recommend? I'm in the NY/NJ area but I may be able to send a grandparent to do a week with him somewhere else. If not a program, maybe a coach that would do half days with him at a reasonable price?
Just to share goals: I don't expect that we'll go for serious karting competition in the coming years but you never know. It's really based on how dedicated he is. I do want him to continue to develop if he really continues to have a passion though. The first step is just to expose him a bit more to the fundamentals.
Thanks

I would contact Elivan Goulart, who runs SCDA, a well-respected DE outfit here in the tri-state area. Elivan himself is a multi-time SCCA national champion in Spec Miata, and his sons have had good success with karting. Their home kart track is Oakland Valley Race Park in Orange County, NY, north of the city. Elivan could point you to the right person to help your son with exploring karting. His email is elivan@scda1.com

on another note dont get caught up in the hype of parents , buying the best equipment, etc… for an 8 yr old. Let them learn first and as they progress and want to move forward invest. I have seen plenty of kids get burnt out and also the parents doing it for the wrong reasons.
