AiM Flagtronics Integration
I'm pretty excited to be able to share something AiM built into the latest releases of firmware for the SmartyCam3 that will allow the display of flags transmitted through the Flagtronics FT-200 in car system. Right now SVRA, Trans Am, Champcar, VSCDA, and more are starting to use these or they are already mandated. Connecting the CAN output of the FT200 to the AiM dash and a little configuring lets you display the flags right on your video! I tested this at Lime Rock a few weeks ago with an SC3 Sport while it was great. This will be good for officials and racers as you will have that information in your video if you are summoned to the stewards!
If anyone wants more info on this, needs configuration help, or wants an SmartyCam 3 just reach out. I have cameras in stock, am ready to help, and can build this functionality into a lot of different setups.

You need the FT200, GPS, and their harness. It comes as a kit and I think they are the only ones that sell it. The kit is cheaper for some race groups than others, so I would check out their webpage options before buying.

Mine was a stand alone box that just needed power. It’s just a radio receiver listening for a particular signal to light up the display. BTW - IGT made these mandatory last year.
As for the effectiveness, it’s only as good as the humans pushing the buttons. Helpful on a full course yellow, less helpful on a local yellow as you often see the flag before the device lights up (which makes sense if you have ever flagged, the first thing you do is pop out the yellow flag, then as you are waving it you call it in, and in the case of the flagging system, wait for someone in the control room to hear the flagger and press a button).

There are a few things with when you see the flags. It can certainly be the flagger not hitting the button, but the track is divided into zones. You could see a flag station but not be in that zone, so the FT200 won't show anything.
