1) We do a sport that has risks and we all do our own risk vs reward assessments and ultimately know it's our life we're risking so it's on us if we die. This is also a private membership track? so it's likely the guy is big into track driving. I can't feel that bad for someone dying doing what they love when it has a risk of death. There are worse ways to go... and he was 70.
2) There is a blackout on details. No mention if it was single occupancy or not when i checked other articles for details, which is often something disclosed if only one person is hurt. This guy is dead, nothing is changing that. Your thoughts jumped to focusing on him. My thoughts jumped to hopefully no one else is involved in critical condition on death's door.

Interesting point raised about an on-track medical emergency leading to the wreck....
Not the first time that's happened.
Happens on the street fairly regularly too.

In the western canada region 99% sure we've never had a on track death from an accident at a road race or hpde, and every death was a result of a medical issue. The one that stuck with me was years ago a guy had a heart attack in a road race and just casually pulled over like a gentleman, parked it, and quietly died, and no one knew until recovery came to tow him into the pits after the race.
Our medical requirements that prevent you from racing are mostly related to are you going to black out while racing?; insulin dependence or heart abnormalities = banned from road racing here.

I remember that was the way Denny Hulme passed- while in a race at Bathhurst, in a M3. He was blacking out with a heart attack and hit the wall, but got it stopped. I don't think anyone else was involved.
Hopefully that is what happened here...

I'm a big E30 M3 fan and I never knew that. I mean if it's your time to go (heart attack) I can't think of a better way if you're a race car driver. Carroll Shelby had to quit racing due to a bad heart, he got a new heart from a 30 some year old gambler and lived a long time after that.

Definitely not a SRF. I rented one once for an SCCA race in the 90s at the old Gateway track. It ran in ASR at the time. There were two of us running those that weekend, and a friend of mine ran his into a wall after the straightaway. I got first place by default :-) A lot quicker than a spec racer Ford. Ran a Toyota engine.

Their website shows an old style (with fresh paint) SRF without the rear wheel cutouts.
