Thanks!

I raced with a strong field of B1 cars in 2020 at Summit, in a B3 car, and worked hard to stay ahead of Andrew in a 996, Will in a 997 and Del in a 987.2 (i think), all of whom turned laps under 1:16.5 that weekend. So I got a front row seat to the record holder's impressive driving along with a few others.

Easy to say 997 after this weekend but I am not sure its a clear advantage. Everyone seems to agree Caymans are more nimble and pointed which makes them somewhat easier to drive. But I find the balance can be hard to troubleshoot. In a 911 I can feel the balance more readily, or perhaps it's the imbalance that's easier to pinpoint. In any case, to be competitive a good motor and proper setup are arguably more important than platform. I think either platform can be competitive but the 981 weight penalty is unfair in B1. Setup is something I've chased in ALL platforms. This was the first time since building this 997 car that it didn't fight me. My shop had a Porsche Motorsports engineer train the team on how best to setup a race car, plus they got some new hardware. Whatever he taught them it worked magic on my car. Super compliant!

Great weekend! Potomac Region always puts on a first class event!

Here’s a video from the start of the Orange enduro. It was a bit wet! My son Connor driving. Unfortunately ran into a fuel pick up problem and had to retire about 20 minutes in.

So happy I went to this race. I haven’t been to this race since 2009 had nothing but great memories of a track that offers so many challenges. I have new respect for the hairpin through the carousel into turn 9. I don’t think I ever went through the correct way! I was thrilled that 6 (!) GTC3 cars showed up which was one of the bigger 996 Cup Car fields I’ve seen in awhile. It didn’t disappoint. Here’s the finish of Red Sprint Race 2 where I was battling the number 143 car for 2nd place.

Quali lap and Race 2 video below. Tons of fun. If you have never driven the Summit Point race you should put it on your list for 2024.
