Default COTA repave?

Does anybody know if they already completed the repave? I know they moved the Chin event out to make time to resurface, just wondering if it's going to get bumped again if they haven't finished paving with the icy weather now.

Yeah, Dave might know. Looking at the pictures of the back straight it doesn't look refinished yet. I still see what looks like the washboard bumps through the ice.

Agree, does not look finished (or even started from a couple of those pics).

Dave is the resource for info on all things Austin..

I don't know but will try to find out. I also don't know if they are resurfacing the entire track or just portions...

After the flak they got from F1 for how bumpy the track was last summer I would not be surprised if they resurfaced the whole thing. I’ve done four track days in the last year and it didn’t bother me in an AMG GTR but I am sure it was brutal in a ground effect Formula One car.

When I was there in December, they said they were planning a partial repave of the front and back straights, T1, T2, T3, T10, and the bump in the carousel. The back straight was pretty bad in December compared to what it used to be.. bumps all the way down the back straight that many folks were bitching about. It would be a PITA in a downforce car that is stiff. I was driving a C8 Z06 with MSRC dampers so no biggy.

I remember the pit straight going up to turn one in the braking zone was pretty bumpy in September as was the back straight. But in an AMG GTR no big deal.

Non related, but how do you like the GTR on track? I have seen several of the race versions at COTA that are very quick, but almost none of the street based versions.

I’ve used it repeatedly at the AMG Driving Academy as I’ve had four track days at COTA with them.

It’s an excellent track car with tons of grip and very predictable. It’s a difficult car to spin and has great track manners. I did enjoy my 911 Turbo S more than the GTR at COTA but the GTR definitely has higher limits of grip and is the better track car. And it has a lot more power than the GT3 but again, not as light on its feet.

and, of course, it sounds great if you like that AMG V8 sound which I do.

I'm pretty sure that was from the previous repave a year ago.

No worries, that was an interesting video so thanks for sharing the link!

They cancelled the Chin DE at COTA Feb 3rd-4th. Guess my track fix will have to wait until March this year but hopefully they get it repaved before another weather event moves through.
