Default Big Drag Race in FL this weekend

For something different - there is a huge drag race this weekend in Bradenton FL. They have a total purse of $1.3 million and have mixed things up. In the nitro categories, instead of 16 cars qualifying, they are only taking 8. Then, the pair ups are by random draw instead of first vs. last, second vs. 15th, etc. It's got a huge build up and some great results so far. Bob Tasca went 341 mph in 1,000 feet!

I love the way the teams rebuild the engines in-between runs like if/when they drop a cylinder(s). Parts hot? No matter, just be ready for the next one.....

I grew up near the Englishtown drag strip. I'm not a drag racing fan, but it was cool to go see the top fuel cars there when they had the Summernationals. Top fuel cars are seriously impressive. Obviously fast, and they shake the grandstands as they go past. And LOUD, holy Christ. I lived about 10 straight-line miles from the track, and when I wasn't at the track I could hear them from my house!

I remember when Don Garlits broke the 200mph barrier in 1320.

Anyone into cars and motorsports should go to an NHRA national event at least once.

The sounds, the speed, the chaos in the pits, you need to experience it.

Brought my wife years ago to a national event at New England Dragway and she loved it.
