Racers - What ear protection do you use in the car?

So thinking about this...how much of a PITA are the custom or semi-custom earbuds to deal with? As in how do you put your helmet on? Earbuds in, Balaclava on, Helmet on, Plug in earbuds to helmet harness (or pre-plug with long enough cord), Tuck cord up into helmet?
Current I use Stilo earmuffs and just stick some earplugs in before donning all the gear. It works OK, but could be better hence why I am looking for something else.

I use custom earbuds and wouldn't use anything else. Putting them on you first put the earbuds on, head sock and then zip up firesuit so the wire from the buds exits at the top of the zip. Put helmet on, and plug earbuds into adapter that sits on the outside of the chin area of the helmet. Get in car, and plug IMSA cable into radio connector.
The only downside with this setup is if you inadvertently snag the earbud cord, and unplug it from the adapter on the helmet during a race etc. It's probably unlikely you'll be able to plug it back in.

Ive been using these for concerts, sports games, and driving for 5+ years. Ive never had their comms, but if you just need ear protection, get a set of their musicians earplugs and put blanks in the filter slot (included) for the track. You'll love the 17 or 27db filters if you attend concerts as well!

I probably lot more hearing sitting in the paddock behind cup cars warming up than I did on track.
I bought a box of these cheap ear plugs with a string between them on use one of day. You can leave them around your neck all day and use them when you need them. At the end of the day I toss them.

I use Eargasm plugs which are great. Coupled with the sound deadening of a Stilo helmet I feel well protected. I often leave my plugs in until someone wants to talk to me.
