Default Racers - What ear protection do you use in the car?

Hey all, For those who are in race cars, what ear protection are you using under your helmet that still allows you to hear the crew on the radio? I have tried a couple different earplugs but still looking for something better.

TIA.

I wear custom molded ear plugs with speakers. They are worth every penny.
You need someone very experienced to do the mold properly. I wear them even if I don't need the comms.
My helmet is wired for IMSA plug and I have adapters for radio, Tracom intercom and even old and new versions of Chatterbox.

I found the built in cups found in Stilo, Schuberth etc. are just not enough for me.
Industrial ear plugs work well, but they can get loose. I stopped using them.

If you opt for industrial ear plugs, Howard Leight Max can be purchased from ULINE. I have a box of 200 that I purchased for $32 12 years ago.. I don't use them in my car any more,
but they come in handy when my wife snores.

Ok so how do these work in your helmet? Do they plug in inside the helmet then you still use the Stilo microphone? Still connecting to the car with the IMSA cable?
I have a Stilo and I agree the stock ear cups are just OK.
I am now mostly doing arrive and drive endurance racing, so custom setups will be a challenge to navigate as we have to all have the same type of connection.
Looks cool, Thanks!

Yes, they plug into a jack that integrates with the microphone and then into the IMSA connection in the car. If you want I can take a picture later today.

+1 on molded ear buds..
I wear them even when not using the radio... as odd as it sounds, I hear the car and what is going on around me better with them in.

It's one of these where the earbuds have a male plug to connect to the wiring in the helmet https://www.sampsonracing.com/Racing...t-p/hkb-if.htm

I bought these just to experiment. They looked interesting. I bought a pair.

They need a very tiny replaceable tip on the ends. So small, those white tips are actually hard to pick up. I found the sound was excellent and so too was the noise isolation, but the small white tip made me nervous. I was afraid that white dot of a tip would come off in my ear. Never actually used them for this reason.
  1. Wonder how your experience was?
  2. How did you get by the concern about the white tip coming off?

I’ve used these, and hearing aids, for years. Never had a problem with the tips coming off either devices accidentally.

I use earplugs with the little speaker built in. Not ideal but they will work until I get a custom set made.

I have these, super expensive and not sure they are worth it compared to others in the ~$300 range as these are the only ones I have tried: https://www.sensaphonics.com/product...stom-earphones

What I have learned is that you need the custom moulds refitted every so often, especially if your weight fluctuates because the ear canal changes and can lead to a crappy fit
