Massive SPB Race
Thought I would share a very short but cool video. Apparently the largest SPB race ever in the country. Had 43 sign up but I think they didn't quite reach that number due to a few incidents during an open track day Friday. Pretty cool stuff. I did my first Racer's Clinic this weekend and almost everyone will be running SPB so the field will surely grow.
Also - crazy to see Buttonwillow so green!

Great weekend racing with Porsche Owners Club (POC) at Buttonwillow. My good friend Doug B @C4 Pazzo and I drove down from NorCal to join the group. We had 41 Boxster Specs in Race 1, what a hoot! In reviewing data from the last 20 years, this looks like a record car count for any Porsche racing organization. This event reminded me of the glory days of PCA racing years ago when there were huge SPB fields with master racers like Drake, Gladwill, Gibbons, Vieth, ***, Fisher, et al from Texas, Colorado, California and the east coast.
The event was so much fun, and great hospitality from all the POC folks. Huge racing field running Buttonwillow in the reverse, not normal, direction with minimal car to car contact. POC runs a great program, starting with their Time Trials and annual Racers Clinic all the way through top notch racing from 944s to the 991.2 Cup Spec class. They run 2 race groups, and there are always split starts to let cars in class race each other and minimize incidents. No asking or begging the steward required. POC is all about the driver experience, listening and adapting to what their members want, a huge positive for any racing organization. No kingdoms here.
The POC Racers Clinic is really something. I had the opportunity to observe their classroom sessions and on track activities. Future racers are taught and get to practice basic racing techniques in a safe, controlled environment. Race starts, side by side racing, proper passing techniques - all the stuff I wish I’d learned before jumping into my first race. This type of instruction should be required for any race licensing organization, imho.

@Wujohn the Viagra car #888 is my dad, @FastCarSlo and I race the Pepto car #950. Paul will say that some pre-race prep will help you race hard.
We broke the SPB race record last month at Spring mountain, and this weekend broke it again. It was a great weekend of tight, mostly clean racing. @tgsmith4845 it was great to meet you!

Very cool having Tim and Doug down for the races. It was a blast to watch from Race Control as there was action around the entire track. Bummer we had to call the race a couple of laps early on Saturday as there were some great battles, but there wasn't time to get the field collected for a restart. And the racers clinic was a success with most drivers moving on to racing our their second clinic!
