Hopefully not, but there was nothing I could do at that stage. For what it is worth, now it looks like a nice blue transfer layer has been put on...
Meanwhile the cotter pin and retaining bolts have turned yellow..

That and brake shudder is a sign of glazing. You should look at your pads and possibly scrub them with sandpaper.

After a little bit of driving and visual inspection I think it’s ok. Below a picture of the setup now properly installed.

Did you give them a good bleed after? Billowing dark smoke from brakes is never a good thing.

Yeah, I have seen more broken studs than broken lugs on track, but I agree that the gain in convenience is significant.

Studs are a wear item. You need to replace them as they cycle out. There is also operator error, like torquing wheel bolts when they are hot.

I'd make sure to bed the pads in after that and as others have said maybe sand down the pad material slightly if they were glazed. Just make sure to do it in a uniform fashion, of course.

100% on studs being a consumable
110% on hot wheels and lugs

Studs are consumables. Torque and release again and again stresses the metal. I replace them as routine.

Also the threaded holes in the hub are not made for constant torque and release and the hub is a lot more expensive to replace.

Easier to change tires too
