I'll add that AirBnB for Hyco Lake NC is a great option for a couple folks to share a house.

All great tips above.
I went to VIR for the first time last month with David Murry and the DE with the Club Race. You will enjoy the track.
In terms of learning I tried sim work (not enough!) and videos. I enjoyed these videos - Peter and Ross's Track Walk, Jim Pace narrating laps, the NNJR one mentioned already ASM Track Tips turn by turn. Blayze's track guide, and a number of lap videos by Mike Skeen. All on YouTube.
We stayed at the Berry Hill resort Peter mentioned. They allow dogs which was the deciding factor for us. it worked for us but I would love to stay at the track, no dogs, someday.
The Molasses Grill in Halifax was very, very good. Aunt Millie's is good for lunch. The Paddock Club facility was not open in the paddock but looked to be under construction so maybe when you are there. We tried their take out one day and it was good.
Enjoy.

I leave for VIR for my 2nd race there this Wednesday. Who has the best burger in danville? Any unique foods in the area? I'm flying into Charlotte and will pick-up Carolina BBQ on the way to the track at Lexington BBQ. That place does great pig! SCCA has lots of down time. Any tips on fishing the Dan river are appreciated.

Have you stayed at the Bee Hotel? It looks brand new and I was thinking about staying there next time I am at VIR so curious if you have any opinion.
I've been a big fan of Berry Hill Conference Center in South Boston but my last visit left a little bit to be desired. The hotel is an old plantation, and still owns a few hundred acres which you can hike, but they need to do a little more maintenance. When I have stayed there in the past we have eaten at the pub, but this time around the food was not so great. It feels like they got a new chef and he/she isn't very good.
I hope they turn it around because I really like the place but it needs some money thrown at it.

Fwiw...I'm sitting in a vrbo in Danville right now. It is very nice and easy to navigate the area. I have not really seen surrounding area its dark and I just got here but this house is very clean, furnishings good, bathroom kitchen newly renovated, house nicely appointed.

We stayed at the Bee last year and it was very nice. Would do it again without hesitation.

It's a complex track. Despite the appearance of lots of runoff, people do hit things if they go off, so stay on the track. Don't be in a hurry to be fast on this track, this one takes more time to learn than most. But it's worth learning, because many (including me) would say it's one of the best tracks in the US. It reminds me of Watkins Glen, but I'd say it's more complex than Watkins Glen.

Video to watch
I did buy and download the Peter Krause and Ross Bentley Speed Secrets Virtual Track Walk. Very good value IMO. A nice aspect was the identification of areas with rise for good braking compression, along with declines and camber spots. I need to make a one (or two) pager out of it for reference at the track.
