Concerns re. shipping R comps by air?
I ordered a set of heat-cycled Pilot Sport Cup 2R's from Tire Rack yesterday for an upcoming track event. They called me today to say one of the front tires was damaged on their heat cycling machine at the Indiana warehouse, and they need to get a replacement from the Nevada warehouse. They want to send the replacement to me in NY via FedEx 2-day air. It just occurred to me that FedEx planes are probably not room temp in the cargo hold--should I be concerned that the tire would potentially be exposed to freezing or subfreezing temps in the air? Michelin explicitly states on their website "Do not use, store, handle or ship MICHELIN® Pilot® Sport Cup 2 R tires at ambient temperatures below -7°C (20°F). Under these conditions the tire components can crack." Anyone know how cold the FedEx cargo holds get?

I asked that question of FedEx when my shop was air freighting tires for an F1 car I was working on, they said typically between 10-15 degrees C, more often on 787's 10-20C in the cargo hold.

^^ If 10C/50F is as cold as it gets, then we're in good shape. Thanks Peter!
