We have both an Evo & a GT3, and I have driven both on the track. With equal drivers, there is no way that an Evo, even if it makes 350 RWHP, which is quite a feat, could stay with a stock GT3, which BTW makes around 350 RWHP. Our Evo is lowered 2", has the suspension setup, and it still does not handle like my GT3. And because of the extreme front weight bias, it does not stop in the same area code.

That being said, the Evo is a much easier car to drive, and to find the limit in. So a timid driver in a GT3 will be slow, while an agressive (though maybe not talented) driver in an Evo could be quick, and with a bunch of extra HP could stay with a poorly driven GT3. So what does that prove?

I think what's been proven is that neither the EVO or the STi could cut it in SCCA T1, while the GT3, while not a terribly popular ride in T1, can be put on the podium at the runoffs.

Next year we'll see how the awd turbo econo boxes do in T2.

What does a GT3 run at Willow? Doug Hayashi says Wayne ran 1:31 in his modded Evo. The Eclipse in OTC 2003 ran 1:38's with a relatively mild engine, under 300 crank hp I think.

At OTC 04, the Evo's (all with mods, and some with pro drivers) ran 1:32.9 to 134's on street tires.

My 911 ran a 1:30.9 -- and I'm not as good a driver as Wayne Mello.

I recently got to drive a guy's GT3 at Willow, and I think it's safe to say that my car isn't as fast.

Wayne's car has had substantial mods done to it recently. It wouldn't surprise me to be faster than the OTC Evo's. And as you said, Wayne is fast on big Willow.

Really! Get him signed up for OTC 2005! I would love to see a showroom stock GT3 kick some *** in the OTC.
