Default Zytek Management System

Has anyone heard of or have any experience with Zytek electronic management systems? A friend is looking at an RS America that has a Zytek system installed. What is the benefit of this over a Bosch or factory system?

Zytek is a aftermarket programmable management system by a company in Europe. This is similar in function to a Bosch Motorsport, MoTeC, Electromotive engine management system where a laptop is used to adjust engine parameters so the engine runs properly. In the US, Bob Holcombe (MODE Engineering) is probably the most likely place where the system was installed an I'd check there for any questions. Depending on which ECU is in the car, it may be inexpensive to get a cable and the software to look at and adjust the engine, or it might be difficult and expensive. I believe Norm Goldrich here has Zytek on his 993GT2 and has found it more cost effective to look at replacing the system with MoTeC than to get the cable and software from Zytek.

If the car runs fine like a production car, then you'll not need any adjustment unless you change a component. You may consider that.

I do indeed have Zytek as do 3 other friends. It is a good and reliable system. Zytek used to make F1 ecus so the quality is very good. However, the systems are not very user friendly like the newer systems.

(1) You have to have a diskette with your map and program on it. You cannot simply download the current map in the ecu and start changing it. So if you do not have the original diskette you will have to send your ecu back to Zytek in the UK or to Bob H in AZ to have a diskette created.

(2) Not only do you need a cable, but you need a special interface in order to use it. Zytek will still custom make one for you but it costs about $3500 USD. Not worth it in my opinion, it is a wiser investment to convert to Motec so you can simply plug in a laptop and go...

Hope that helps...

Default Zytek Management System

Norm, thanks for the information. What would be the cause for one to want to re-map or re-program the Zytek ecu?

Rjohn,

Changing anything like:

(1) Trying a new type of turbo(s)

(2) Just trying to richen a bit...

Another reason is ease of parts availability. With Motec you dont have to go overseas to get the parts. Even Bob H has to get them from the UK...

Sorry to resurrect and old thread, but I'm looking for info on converting from Zytek to Motec. I recently purchased a decently modified 993 turbo and it has a Zyteck MR03 ECU, issue is it is a static tune with no self learning and I am bringing it from sea level to 7,000 ft. It is running extremely rich at this altitude and is basically not drivable. Seems like converting it to a MoTec system would be my best bet, but I'm not sure what would be involved or where to go to get that done.

No worries. I used Rick Deman @ Deman Motrorsports & Geoffey Ring to do the conversion from Zytek to Motec.

They did an awesome job on my GT2.

I was able to change everything after that. Went to a new ADL at that point, M800, and PDM32...

Hit up Rick - they do awesome work and can do anything.

Good luck!

Utah, Salt Lake City area. Also, update for anyone else in a similar boat, Deman no longer takes on projects like this and apparently Geoffrey Ring is also out of this particular business.

Good to know.
Pat Williams at Pat Williams racing can do it as well.
He used to build my awesome engines and program them on his dyno.

He does great work too.

He is in Memphis.

That said, there is likely someone closer to Utah....

Maybe try dropping Chris Cervelli @CTS a note.

I believe he’s in CO.

Thank you both! I dropped Chris a PM and I'll reach out to Pat Williams as well. Thanks for the connections, hopefully I can get this thing running properly so I can enjoy the mountain roads this Spring!
