Sample video - Oregon Scientific camera
I took this video this weekend - my first time out with the Oregon Scientific camera. The camera is a really good deal. I got the camera and a 2GB card for about $125. The quality on the web isn't that great because of the compression, but I'm very happy with the quality on my PC. It was tough to get a clean lap in, but I caught one after pitting in with my friend Joel in the Cayman S in front of me. The lap is a 1:05 at LRP. Please feel free to critique my droving. Happy to share info on the camera as well.

About 30 minutes - then you just download to your PC between sessions. There are some downsides to the camera. There isn't a viewfinder so you have to spend some time setting it up. I couldn't get an angle far enough back to get my hands in the shot either. Still experimenting though.

I have one, too. I think the image and sound quality could stand improvement -- but it's such a simple self-contained unit that it's perfect for use as a race car camera where you might need data after an incident. You can also stick it just about anywhere -- like if you want to look at suspension travel, or woll tufts for aero -- without having to run power and video wires to it.
It's not the only camera for every job, but it's pretty good for a few basic jobs.

Pretty darn good for a $125 camera. Oh and nice droving too. Which camera model is this? Also, probably a dumb question, but I'm assuming from the position of the camera you have it fixed to a roll cage?

Here is the camera - shop around, I got mine on ebay bundled with the card

I have it attached to the diagonal on the rollbar with hose clamps. I'm looking for a better mounting solution though.

It looks like demand outstripped their supply. I got mine early on for $79 here, but now the heavier discounters seem to have problems keeping it in stock.
The one really frustrating thing about it is that it isn't able to accomodate a regular tripod mount -- 1/4" Whitworth (20 tpi). Someone needs to find a cheap threaded piece that will fit with one of the camera's mounting pieces.

Hi Sean -
This is the same camera that I had mounted in my car that I got the video of me chasing you with.
For sure the cameras are a great deal. I got mine as best buy for $40 on sale. 30 min of video takes up about 600MB on the memory card (as an AVI format)
Mine didn't get any sound, and I'm not sure if it was chassis noise coming through the bars or wind noise. I would be curious to see how you mounted yours.
The other question, what software do you use to format the videos after you're done? I had a hard time dealing with the big files in Movie Maker (POS program).

The Oregon Scientific camera has a built in (waterproof) mic, although I've hears about people returning them because the audio level is too low. For recording people speaking, I think it would be pretty lousy. But mine does okay with engine sounds.

There is a little static in the soundtrack but not nearly as much as mine picks up. I think the static comes from wind noise overdriving the mic and I am going to test out some wind buffers over the mic to see if that helps out. Here is a link to an autox lap that I shot with my Oregon Scientiifc camera mounted to my harness bar, the video is not as compressed what Yahoo did to yours so you can better see the real video quality of the camera, you should right click the link and save-as: the file is 25MB
Edit - that was the wrong the video link - here is the right one - http://dodownload.filefront.com/6926...80e7253d74d9b4
