Question for Aiptek HD users

Thanks to the tips in the last thread on this topic I was able to stop my Aiptek from shutting off, but now I have the problem of the battery only lasting about 35-40 minutes from a full charge. Does anyone know of a long-life battery to buy for these things? I'd like it to last a full hour or 1.5 hours to get an entire enduro race in.

Sean, I looked for a longer life battery myself and did not find one. I thought about buying the AC adapter and putting a converter in to plug it in but have not done this.
This may not work in a full race car however.

Also I bought a remote that controls On/Off so I can turn it on just before going on track. It is the size of a credit card.

I didn't mount mine permanently. I have a glass suction cup mount and also a clamp mount I have used. I still haven't really settled on one place to mount it yet. I don't like it back behind my head because I can't tell for sure it is on back there.

I figure some velcro would do the trick - something that light won't ever come off. I've got my AIM screen (the mini MyChron one) mounted with industrial velcro and have no problems. How do you know the remote worked and the camera is actually on??

The light on the camera comes on but it is on the side of the camera facing you can't see if it is behind you. That is why I haven't found a permanent spot. I thought about maybe sticking a small mirror in place to see it. Sometimes the madness never stops does it.

I can picture it - all strapped in, HANS device on, trying to look at a camera the size of a pack of cards next to you (and slightly behind you) to see if it is on...

Yes. Been there done it and have the Tshirt. Sometimes the little things take on a life of their own. I am going back to the track next weekend and I will try to get a solution to this dilemma.

What kind of Aiptek do you have? I am thinking about picking a Go-HD 720 after reading about all the suggestions to avoid shut off. Aiptek offes a 12V car charger. You can hot wire, so when the car is on, there is power to the camera. That is how my current camera is set up and I use no battery in the car.

I have the AHD 720P (blue). Yeah, I'm headed in the hardwire direction as well. I was hoping there'd be a better battery option, but I guess not.

As an aside, the GO-HD is better than A-HD among other things because the tripod mount is part of the chassis of the camera. The A-HD tripod mount is sort of an afterthought. It's part of the plastic skin and can make the camera wiggle like crazy at speed.

Also GO-HD accepts 8GB cards, not sure if the A-HD does as well.

And I've done the same thing as Nader - hardwired the car charger.
