Would F & R 993TT brakes be tooo much for a 2700lb 951
After the second event at WGI and having to do a daily brake fluide flush and bleeding, I need to make some changes to my 951 and it's 928 S4 brakes.
So my question is.....How much brake is too much for our cars. My car is currently 3060 pounds with 1/2 a tank so I would think front and rear 993 TT brakes would be OK without causing lock up.
However if in the future I decide to lighten her up to @2750 would I have too much brake?????? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks.

First, what pads and fluid are you running? Do you have brake ducts to cool the front end? Is it possible that you have a stuck caliper?
The reason I ask is that I've driven 944's with 928 brakes and they were awesome?

How much hp?
I suspect the 928 S4 brakes are plenty for a 951 @ 2700lbs with a mild hp boost. You can probably improve performance just by using the right pads and cooling. If you have big hp you may need much larger brakes.

Dan, 16" tires and only the 968 plasic pieces. 2:15+. 1:40 in my dreams as VR suggests is a good time. I have been told by Will at PMR I need to blow out the fogs and get ducting. He suggested the 928 GTS calipers as they will bolt up with out having change the line, but didn't suggest the rears.
I am looking for more brake. One of our fellow RTR instructors has a well prepared GT3 and he drives it like few can. I was envious of the speed he had into T-6 (125-130 mph) and his braking for only a 3 count.
Do I understand that you have the big reds or big blacks as calipers??
Did you need special mounting brackets for your calipers and what bias valve did you use on the rears.

+1 Big Reds (993 TT). I take it you have deleted your ABS if you sre worried about locking up. I have the big reds (sans ABS) and lock up was an issue with hard compund tires, one reason I switched to the softer "DOT" approved track tires.

928 GTS brakes would work very well on your 951 if you feel you need more brake. I have a friend who used to own a 968 with the GTS brakes and he never had any problem with them. I say you get new brakes so I can take your S4 calipers off your hands then.

You have an outstanding set-up with your current brakes.... You either have a problem (i.e. Bad Wheel bearings) or you need to learn how to drive better.
IMHO even stock brakes with adequate cooling and good pads should be sufficient with the wieght and horsepower you are quoting.

928GTS fronts are Big Reds, they are just black and used in the trailing position instead of the leading as on a 993tt/RS

928 gts brakes with the right pad and ducting should be more than adequate for your 951. The standard rears are fine and some have taken the brake bias out as long as you have ABS. You must have the cooling ducts or will go thru pads and rotors quickly. This is what I run on my 968 as well as other tops 968 cars.

I have an 86 with 310rwhp and Big Reds, 5/33 bias, Motul 600, Pagid Orange. Works pretty well even in the high temps down here. I do use Broadfoot cooling ducts. The adapters to run the BR's should be easily found at Racer's Edge, though the early offsets are tougher to find.
