I wanted to get 9.5" front and 10" rear Enkeis but the vendor can only get 8.5" fronts. This means going to 245 285 BFG R1 tires and I wanted a closer stagger. So I've opted to try the 8.5"s but I'm interested in anyone's opinion/experiences. I'm concerned with understeer having such a small front tire.

get 10" fronts and run 285 all around if you're allowed to in your class.

I can run whatever I want on this car as it's a road/track car within basic open club rules. The 10" up front could fit but only just. Not sure on actually driving it on the track like this. Guess I could have the guards massaged a bit. I did think of this option but wondered if they might be just a bit too big on the front?

Many are running 8.5 and 10" rims with 245 and 285 18's. If you are going to run PCA then that is all the bigger you can go as far as wheels go.

I'm in Australia so don't have the same rules as you guys. This will also have over 500whp so I don't want to be undertired either. Fronts might not be my only problem though.

Depending if you have rolled your fenders or not you can fit 315s in back. Going much more than 245s in front can lead to pushing issues. I have 340 rwhp and run 245 by 295.

I'm running 9's and 11's...275/35/18 and 315/30/18 Hoosier R6's.

Some rubbing, but not enough to be a problem...mostly only in the hard compression turns, and the paddock.

Ive run 9's and 11's and have had rears 295 30 18 and fronts 275 35 18. Massaged the wells as much as possible, a bit of rubbing nothing of concern tho..

What? How on earth does adding more front tire lead to pushing?
A good friend of mine runs 285-30-18s all around on CCW 18x10s with no fender modifications running KW Var-3 and camber plates.

i too am limited by racing rules to 8.5" front and 10' rear wheels and also use 245 and 285 tires.

i would recommend wider front wheels & tires if possible to reduce pushing....i would do it if i could.

I have BFG R1 255/40/17 up front on 9" with 275/40/17 in the back on 10"and I think it is a good balance. I do have a bit of rubbing on the inside rear fender. The BFG R1 work fine on the track for longer stints but don't warm up very quick ,so are not very good for cooler temps or autocross.

Thanks guys. So do I call the shop and have them swap the fronts to 10"s?? I would be forced to use 245/285 if not with the BFG R1s and I guess you can tune out understeer to a degree but push is push. I currently run 255 / 285 R888s and didn't want to increase the stagger.

I'm running 18x8 & 18x10 with BFG R1's at 245/285. I've been quite happy with the handling so far. I'm currently running about 330-340 RWHP.

Just do the 10s, you'll thank yourself later

After all a fender roller is only a couple bucks, a few beers, and a couple hours and you'll be able to swallow it fine. (As long as you have some camber)

I have been using 10"s all around for four years running 275-17s on this car. Can only turn steering wheel one turn each way with brake ducts but that is fine, even in the pits. This allows rotating tires for maximum benefit -- thinner tread goes on lightly loaded side.
