TWS Lap Times, Stock NA 2WD, street tires?
What would be a good (or great) lap time, CW or CCW, at TWS for a late model (2005 +) normally aspirated two wheel drive Porsche, with stock suspension, factory street tires (BS RE050)– basically, taking the daily driver on the track?
I am enjoying learning to drive (in my daily driver), and would like to have a yardstick to use to measure progress. What I work on at the track with the in-car instructors are skills – smoothness, driving the line, shifting, braking. Still, at the end of the day, these skills are supposed to translate into faster laps.
Right now I am at 2:07 CCW and 2:03 CW (Traqmate). I feel like I should be able to get under 2:00, but am curious if the target is 1:59, or 1:51… I know that most of the hot shoes have track cars, but figure that someone must have taken their regular ride out on the track to see what it would do. TIA.

Carrera or Carrera S?

Dunno. I have been in a Cayman S doing easy 1:59's, but it was on R compounds. I suspect a really good driver on streets could do 1:59's with a clear track.

I would say in your stock car you should shoot for sub 2:00 and you will be getting there, although like Dave I think a 1:59 or even a little less is quite possible.
I can promise you that a stock block 996,with cage, Hoosiers and a few other mods can do 1:50's at TWS, maybe even lower soon.

Is Jay's a regular 996 built up, or did it start as a street GT3?

I drive a 9 year old 911 with a stock 3.4L 300HP engine, PSS9 and mismatched (and many cycled RComps) front to rear. Plus, with the really cold track conditions, I figure they were behaving like decent street tires
I am certain there were at LEAST 3 more seconds for me in my car as it was setup that day. And a few more seconds due to tires and conditions, so maybe 5-7 more seconds with better tires and a warm day and excellent driving. Talk about a list of "what ifs".

Ah, thanks.

I did 205's when I was in the Blue group with my Cayman S (very few clean laps in that group). Sub 2 minute laps are very doable at TWS with Cayman, especially with a competent driver.

....all of this speaks to what I am trying to asses. I enjoy turning a wrench, and it is always fun to buy new bits for the car. I am trying to resist this until I have learned how to get most of the performance out of the car as it is. I believe in the point VR makes from the suspension thread : $8000 for Motons would buy 25 DE's ; 50 days at the track. I am trying to wait on the hardware until it will make a difference I cannot achieve with improved skills.
That being said, I do not want to spend 10 days at the track trying to improve the last half second, when tires and suspension would open up the possibility of 5-10 second gains (with improved skills).
My takeaway so far is that when I can turn 1:59 to 2:00 consistently, I would not be out of line to start playing with the suspension. BTW, since it is a daily driver, I will probably do tires as the last mod, even though they probably give the biggest bang for the buck...
