Default OT: Fast NSX turbo 1:18.5 at Willow springs.

1:18 at willow springs. that beats Anderson by over 5 seconds a lap.
The funny thing is, its at half throttle most of the time!

He's still a second off of the fastest 911s.

But damn, that's fast.

I have been there when a 996 RSR did a high 1:18, a GT1 Turbo did a mid 1:18, a World Challenge GT 997 did 1:19. I have heard of POC racers in the 1:17's but it isn't listed in the track records..

One thing to think about is that most of these "time attack" cars are tuned to run for a few hot laps at a time and would never last through a normal 30 minute sprint race, unlike the cars I listed above. Time attack cars generally have big turbos with the boost turned way up and they overheat if run too long.

The fastest of the RSRs and Stefanowitz in that 700hp 911turbo if I remember correctly.

Pretty sure the NSX is RWD, you might be thinking of the Scion (!!) that ran a 1:23 and is FWD. It had a big wing mounted rear AND front, looks ridiculous but has the speed.

So a SWC GT 997 on Toyo R-compound tires is only a second off a 996 RSR with slicks?

Ya, most time attack cars aren't $400K machines built by teams with million-dollar budgets either... Kind of cool.

The SWC car was actually running Michellin slicks that day, not the spec Toyos, should have pointed that out.

I think the laptimes by some of these time attack cars are really impressive, I was just pointing out that they aren't designed to run at that pace for a whole race. As far as budgets go, it seems like the top teams are pretty well funded, most with a lot of corporate sponsorship. You even have teams from Japan shipping cars out to run at Buttonwillow of all places!

Without taking the few cars that came over from Japan (the HKS EVO is said to have $1,000,000 invested into it), most of the US budgets are no where near the budgets of SWC/Koni let alone Rolex/ALMS.

Pretty cool to see NSXs, EVOs, STIs, GTRs, and even Scions go that fast though.

Stuntman/Billy, next time, mount the camera behind your seat and centered in the car (if you can). It makes for a more exciting video, and we get to see your great driving. :-)
