Lone Star PCA at TWS Sept 12-13

As much as I appreciate the LSR PCA DE events, I wish we could have something more challenging, without going all the way to club racing. Mike, you have been a DE mentor for a long time, and I see that you are on the ITS program for this DE. Is there a way we could gather enough elite drivers and rent a track for a day or two? With 20-30 drivers this would be affordable, and a lot of fun. What do you guys think?!
If you want some more "aggressiveness" with your track time, there are other organizations that will happily cater to this need.
Note that I am not maligning other track day organizations down here--I run with pretty much all of them. It's just that PCA has the well-deserved reputation of running the "safest" events down here, and highly discourages aggressive driving, especially at the more advanced run groups. (those White drivers know what I'm talking about--there have been some quick meetings in the past after a White run session to address this very issue)

WTF: we haven't had a drop of rain all summer. DE season starts and what do you think happens. Rain, Rain and more rain.
I know that we need the rain but that is what Mon-Thur is for. At least its not a hurricane like last Sept but this still bites.

How did you instructors like the pass-anywhere-with-a-point deal?
I was going to stop out and say hi on Sunday, but I got wrapped up trying to watch the NASA Nationals. Everyone be nice to Viking, I hear they had a clutch go south in the GTS race and Jay dropped from 1st to 9th or 10th. They looked to have the field covered, too.

- Turn off all driver aids
- Use street tires
- Downshift to no lower than 3rd gear
- Drive a racing line instead of the optimum line.
- Simulate a unexpected issue with the car (e.g. imagine that your clutch pedal just broke off (so remove it)... can you still drive smoothly with only half of the pedal surface area?
- Imagine that you're in a P1 car at an ALMS event
- Become an instructor, and teach us bastards how to use our mirrors.

Had a great time running the wet track Saturday and the dry one today. My friend, Dan, whom I spent a lot of time convincing to give a DE a try was a good sport on Saturday and was grinning this afternoon. As usual, LSR put on a great DE and the driving and classroom instruction was top shelf again. Yesterday, my instructor, Richard, felt I was ready to move to yellow and made the recommendation. So this morning I ran a blue session, immediately followed by a yellow. I tested with Jack and managed not to embarrass my self or Richard too badly. Jack was generous and gave me a thumbs up. I found that two sessions in a row is hard on an old man. I had a blast running there the rest of the day and I am already looking forward to October.

+1 Driving in the rain on the track rocks.
But towing the car home in the rain sucked. There was one patch of weather that slowed I-45 down to about 35 mph for almost an hour. I also learned that hydroplaning 8 wheels is more than twice as exciting as 4.

While it turned out to be a great weekend this is what it was like walking to the drivers meeting Saturday morning.
On the bright [sic] side. It was the first drivers meeting where we wern't looking into into the sun.

Sorry I didn't get to visit much with either of you this weekend. I had a pretty full plate.
