Default 944 close ratio gearbox...

Anyone have any experience with close ratio trans builds in a 944? pros and cons? I am thinking of building one for my 944 NASA GTS1 car.

I too have considered it for a NASA GTS2 car. I seriously looked at R&P's but it seems like there could be an issue with the strength on the 4.11 I looked at so I ruled that out for now.
I know one person that supposively built a close ratio box but I havn't spoken to him yet regarding it. I will update once I do.

This for an N/A or turbo?
Turbo, you can put an S2 r&p and this works to great effect.

For mine it is an NA, and I was looking at an earlier Audi, and 924, 4.11 R&P but decided it would be too weak for my needs. I want it to work well and be bulletproof.

I know the 931 gearbox internals are renown for it's strength. Not sure you can make the r&p fit? Actually I don't think so, I think this is compatible with the G50 from memory.

931 gearboxes share 915 parts in common, they also have notoriously weak syncros in them and 1st gear IIRC though it's been awhile (931 snail shell boxes, I can't comment on 915 boxes.). Late 968 6 speeds share parts in common with G50's.

Just make sure you dont have a turbo ring and pinion to start with. Someone on the west coast makes or supplies custom gears. If you running GTS-1 you should be making up 200hp at the flywheel with your 2.5l engine in full GTS-1 trim, stock gearing at Mid-Ohio should be fine, just make sure you have a short 5th gear in. You need the 275/35/15 rear tire to really get around MO fast. I will think about the gear guy and let you know, if i can remeber who it is. We are going to build a GTS-1 car for next year as it seems Cup is Dead at Mo and everyone's gone to GTS-1.

How close are the "close ratio" gears on the gearboxes you are refering to? Are they like GT3 cup gears?

In the S2 the only gear that I feel worth replacing is 5th. But if you were going to go custom I guess you could do anything you want depending on the track you'll be running.

...200RWP from a 2,5L ??

Albins gears are what I have...3rd, 4th, and 5th...I understand that they can only be used in a Turbo or S2 gearbox. I would want to use the NA final drive though.

Right now I have 137 HP at the rear wheels. Engine is stock except for a Bursch header and Autothority chip.
