This was posted on NASA:
Today's accident at CMP was caused by a water/anti-freezed Porsche that broke a water hose after T8 and spilled fluid unknowingly up past T10. The first two cars behind made it through and the third was a Porsche 930 equipped with a cage. The car went right in a slide off past T9 into the woods where the rear was barely visible from the track. The instructor died 'instantly' as I was told, but unsure of. The instructor was wearing a full harness and a Hans device. According to two doctors at the scene, the EMTs did all the proper diagnostics and treating of the patient that could be done.

I haven't been to the racing/DE forum in over a year but felt it was time to pop in and make a comment here........
Fellas.....I served as the assistant CI for this event and can tell you that we did lose a dear friend of ours to an accident at CMP. Other than that I am not giving any further information regarding the details I was privi to.
Please leave it at that and just pay your respects for a fallen track brother.
Anything else about safety equipment, track safety, track condition, what happened, etc, it 100% speculation as there is only a small number of us that have those details. I can tell you already that there is plenty that is incorrect that y'all are saying. Out of respect for the family please do not disseminate information that is speculation. The investigation is not complete and there are way too many details that do not need to be discussed here.
May he rest is peace. He was a great friend of mine and more importantly a great guy that gave unselfishly to teach others.

Don't really know what to say in terms of how bad this makes me feel.
I read what was posted on the Roadrace board. Most of what was said about the rising speeds and power of newer cars is something that DE committees have been discussing for years. In fact, after decades of the occasional crash with no injuries what so ever, we had a student fatality a few years ago. It led to a re-thinking and revision of our safety rules, which were reasonably good before that.
I wonder what changes this will bring.

Dell, I feel for you and the family. Very unfortunate and let us know if there is any support we can offer. Our club went through this a couple of years ago and can understand the how you must feel right now.
