Default OT/Red Bull Air Race

Was thinking of going to this -actually the family suggested it for father's day. Of course I would rather by racing with JACKLEE (RIP).

Has anyone ever been to something like this. I am concerned that the planes will be so far away that it really won't be very interesting.

Thanks.

Did you see the wing clip of the air race at Windsor Ontario the other day. Pilot recovered, but oh boy, it was close. Dipped a wing in the water but managed to climb up and recover.
Speaking of Red Bull - I wish I had invented that. They sure have some neat toys.

I saw this the other day, too. They're gonna run it (fly it?) out of Liberty State Park, in Jersey City. The same exact place that nixed the F1 race in less than a day!
Near to where I live, I might venture over for a look, on my bike.

I plan on doing it for Father's day. A great gift for my dad. He used to fly when he was young.

I'm sure we could see this from either side of the Hudson; Battery City Pary, or Liberty State Park. The latter is a little hard to access, gotta go down the NJ Tpk. I'll probably take a look from Cliffside Park, just south of Fort Lee.

I've attended the Reno Air Races for many years, held at Reno-Stead airport. The planes are NOT too far away to enjoy the races and it is a blast. Since the races are held at the airport, you can watch them take off and land as well as get into the pits (for a price).

Not sure how this compares to the Red Bull race since you're not at the airport.

I have attended the ones in San Diego. A great event and lots of fun. The planes were fairly close here.
In San Diego the official site was on one side of the bay but there was lots of good viewing for free from the Coronado side where I live.

I just booked three tickets for a cruise ship off the east side of Manhattan, we'll watch from the boat, $25 each.

Man that sounds like a total blast. Wish I could be there to see it in person. The events look incredibly cool on the TV. Viewing from a boat should really allow you a pretty good vantage point.

Have a great time.

Gums, thanks for the heads up! I had decided not to go because of the hassle of getting to NJ (from CT) and the distance between the seating and the planes. But this sounds excellent. Called the link and they said the boat will sit on the east tip of Ellis Island. See you on the boat. John
