I have the older style bleeder (lacking the swivel fitting) and have been dealing with the twisted hose problem for years.
No more, as the hose let go under pressure and sprayed a bit of fluid around.
Since the rest of the bleeder system is fine, I'm thinking of just replacing the hose. The clamps on each end look like they are 1 time use only.
Does anyone have any experience replacing the hose and clamps; how do you get those clamps free, and are they reusable?
I see that Motive sells replacement parts, though all I really need is a hose and a couple of clamps. I suppose hose clamps would do it, and i could put a swivel fitting on in the process.

I did the same thing earlier this year...I got the pieces from Motive and the cost was very reasonable.

For the Motive, do it like this:

10 ft of 7/16" OD x 5/16" ID clear plastic vinyl hose available Sears for about 35 cents per foot. Then two 1/2" stainless steel (USA) hose clamps perhaps at Sears also or auto parts store. Use 10 foot of clear hose to remove pressure tank well away from car in case of mishap. So cover tank with rag and cover reservoir cap with rag when bleeding or flushing under pressure. Works good. Also, it seems like the cheap vinyl hose should be changed out often because some brake fluid looks to corrode cheap vinyl hose. Reuse stainless steel hose clamps. Total cost of hose and clamps is less than $5. Cut away original clamps with wire cutter.

Also upgrade Motive with this reservoir cap from Assenmacher Specialty Tools TA 18

Used my Motive first time out of the box.....the hose leader to the power bleeder had a leak at the clamp. I'lll get a hose clamp for the fix. Doesn't make sense to go to Motive for a $.75 item.....

As above - vinyl hose and hose clamps. I did mine when I needed to add the connector for a second size cap (miata- now gone). Motive's connector likes to leak, so use thread tape.

Rick, if you're going to the effort of changing the hoses, make sure that you get the piece to make it swivel, otherwise you will have the same problem with the hose twisting.

I know that Motive sellls what they call a "black label" cap, which is metal. It has a swivel fitting with it to prevent the twisting. I believe that you should be able to get all of the necessary parts at your local Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

While I realize it's probably $2 worth of hose, no harm in calling up the company esp if you want to upgrade to the newer design part. You may be suprised what they can do for you.

I was blown away with Motive's customer service recently. I too have the older design cap but that wasn't my issue. My pump started to leak where the metal rod for the pump goes through the cap. I called up the company to order a replacement part and they sent me a replacement free of charge no questions asked.

I agree, Motive has great (and very reasonable) parts and service. I replaced my pressure gauge and hose and it was about $15 delivered to me...

Nice I need to do this too. I also have the clamped on hose and would love to get the swivel kit.

Cut them with dykes. You need a special tool (I think) to put those on, just use a good quality hose clamp if you don't have it, it's only 20PSI max pressure on there. The new hose will come (at least mine did) with new clamps like the ones on there..
