Started looking for new vehicle for The Wife...
Ugh. So many sedan-type cars are sofa king ugly now.
BMW: hideous except for the 3 series
MB: hideous
Porsche Panamera: BWHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! barf-o-matic
Audi: hideous and/or bland as 3 day old oatmeal
VW: bloated & bland
Lexus: blehh at best
Infiniti: some nice choices...
Nissan Maxima: decent, but cheap inside
Cadillac CTS/CTS-V: stellar car, but very small inside
Chevy Malibu: stellar car....but still a Malibu
Ford SHO: pretty decent & fast car, but dodgy dealer service
Chrysler: you've gotta be focking kidding
What am I missing???

I'd Vote BMW... Your spectrum is very broad here... BMW's to Chevy's so I guess it depends on what you want. I had a 335i Sedan that was a blast to drive. I've had a couple of Infiniti's and they are good cars but the interior is so cheap inside.
The rest of your list I've driven as rental cars and the most impressive was the Malibu. Another possible choice is the Hyundai Sonata.. It was underpowered (probably the level rental I had) so I'm not sure of all the options available, but I really liked the car.
I recently went back to a BMW.. But I beg to differ that the 5 series in the M is good looking. IMO

New Sonata's have a 274hp 2.0l turbo motor option, and the interior in pictures I have seen looks pretty nice.

I agree that the choices are slim in terms of truly attractive vehicles. Before you dismiss Audi, take a test drive of a Q5 and maybe an S6. You might be surprised. Also, don't they have an RS6 coming out this next year? Otherwise, 335, or a C or E class Merc get my vote.
Of course there's always the Reliant Robin

old man in me but I am digging estates such as the A6 Avants. Low key plus room to store some goodies in the back. That being said if it was my wife the MB-SL: perfect number of seats (2) one for her and one for our belove collie plus her 6-pac (tennis gear) fits perfectly in the trunk.
