Paddle shifters in the Flying Lizards RSR

I'm all for paddle shifters or whatever makes the 997 Cup's tranny more reliable and/or cheaper to fix/refresh.
Any device that puts an end to the PMNA gearbox "racket" is welcome!
BTW, is the throttle blipper a PM device or Manthey's?

Mine's a Manthey. Dad had one installed in his car by Kelly Moss, also a Manthey.
Have not heard anything about the Porsche blipper. I think Autometrics is also working on one.
Cory?

I agree 100%. I really hate the dumbing down we're seeing in racecars. It makes it more about the machine than the man behind the wheel. All the electronic gizmos and PDKs and things are great for a high performance high tech. street car/track toy, but I'd like to see some purity and driver skill left in actual racing.
And as an example, I would hold up Chris Musante, who with his 20 year old chassis, air cooled engine, and our H-pattern dog box in his G50 gives the modern Cup Cars hell. That man can drive...

I actually spoke at length about paddle shifters with Patrick Long. In his opinion it's certainly an advantage to have them. He pointed out the importance of being able to keep both hands on the wheel when shifting gears and how it allowed the driver to focus more on the other tasks at hand. Even at his level, simplifying the effort to shift gears pays dividends.

All true, and I am very happy for all who can. And like you, I don't give a damn what his lap times are...under normal corcumstances. But holy cow! If you're gonna utterly destroy a tranny, and post the video to prove it, at least be really fast!

He doesnt look bad as a general rule on lines and car placement, just needs some coaching on rev matching. If he would just single down instead of double it would make a big difference. The overrevs going into Chateau turn are not only really going to hurt the drivetrain but also are really upsetting the car for example.
Seems like a day or two with a good coach would help him a bunch.

Innovate or die.
Who here does a double clutch DS when a single will work? Isn't this the same evolution but 20 yrs on?
Porsche wants to sell customer cars. If this gets more customers in cars then it supports their business case. There are plenty of mid-80's cars around if people want old tech. You can even spend $100K to get them race ready.
What pro wouldn't use this technology if it makes them more consistent and less tired or helps them keep hands on the wheel at all times?

In fact, some of these parts are already out there and recently ran the 24 Hours. The Brumos GT3, for example, was using some of our internal bits that are showing themselves to be significantly more durable than the "OEM" motorsports counterparts.

The throttle blipper and even paddle shifters won't totally solve this issue. Better quality parts and redesigning certain inherent weaknesses in the Holinger design is what will resolve this. Coming soon to a racetrack near you.
