Eric: he's my friend, but he's the biggest trashtalker known to man. So yes, I want to give him a hard time.
Cool! You won a DE!

How was the timing done? I suspect even if it was the same (ie: both of you have a Trackmate system), there could be sufficient variance between the two systems to make a greater difference that it truly is.

Or, you're just the better drover!

Nah, we have a timing system with a transponder at the track. It's pretty accurate.
Guy is not a bad driver. Just has a big ego, thinks he's all that and then some.
I love proving him wrong.

Hey VR, I'd love to have you coach me on the Radical, bro!

lol, .8 seconds on a 1.6 mile course is an eternity.

And I believe the talk is about drivers here, not cars. So having someone drive both cars will not get to the bottom of your buddy being slow.

It refers more to VR will probably be a second faster than one guy in his own car and 3 seconds in the other guys car... so then not only will it prove which driver is faster but also which car.

its still a DE though, anyone who has an ego likes little boys peni.

His response was that he was driving at 8/10th's (clearly bull****).
Have you ever thought of telling him that you were driving at 8/10s too?

Let him prove that you weren't.

You're laying out the NASA GTS mystery. Cars are classed by LBS/HP but certain cars are just unbeatable (M3s in GT2). It can be torque curve variations, braking, aerodynamic drag, downforce and god forbid, better driving!
The last two GTS2 national championships held at Mid Ohio, '07 & '08 were won by Porsche. I suspect that this year's winner will be as well.

I suspect you will hear these in the future:

My tires are crap.

I'm not feeling well.

The sun was in my eyes.

etc. etc.

Offer him your car. Get his time and then you drive your car and get your time. Best time = better drover.

giving it a power:weight ratio of 6.6 lbs/hp.

His car has a better to power to weight and on a a short 1.6 mile track the ligher weight probalby has more of an edge.

However little of that really makes any difference as set-up is much more important I am excluding driver effects which is really the biggest issue.

The fact is tha based on power/weight his car should be better especially shorter tigher tracks. You might gain an edge tracks where high top speed is needed.

The fact however is that you can never test this simply because if his car has a bad alignment you will be faster period. The question cannot be answered properly unless both cars race and can be well set-up. Sounds like both are DE car so the argument will never be resolved even if you dropped in a pro driver to act as the Stig.

Funny you mention that. I did the very thing, told him: "We both time in each other's car, then in our own. I guarantee I'll post a better time in both." He chickened out, said something to the effect that his seat was fixed, could not be adjusted, etc. (something that would only be to his advantage, as I'm shorter than him).

This guy is the king of lame excuses, so much so that at one of our events we all signed a shop towel with a sharpie, offering new ideas for excuses, called it "Ed's excuse towel" and handed it to him in an impromptu ceremony at the track.

Just yesterday he was calling me a chicken for not accepting his "challenge" to time our cars against each other at our next event. He also offered this subtle hint as to his intentions:
"Now I just have three weeks to trailer Vette over to England Green in Houston and add the 175hp head/cam package. Should be ready in time...."

He's gonna need each and every one of those extra horsies to even come close to my time.
What an idiot. He just doesn't get it.
