Default Mechanic Hourly Rate?

Just curious... "My guy" recently got more expensive...

What is a typical hourly rate for a shop (not a dealership) to charge to work on a Porsche race car?

Around me, the indy's are $100-120/hr. Dealers about the same from what I've heard. I imagine certain cities/areas are more expensive than others.

My shop, Daniel Jacobs Hairy Dog Grrrage, is a 3+ hour tow each way from my house. I trust them with my life on the track, and they have become my friends both on and off the track as well. Plus, Dan and his crew offer up some of the best racing psychotherapy out there free of charge. IMHO, they are undercharging me!!!

I completely agree. My mechanic has also become a friend. I have his cell # and if I called during a race weekend with a problem he would definitely answer. You can't put a price on that but I'm still curious what others pay...

Hourly rate is only part of the equation. The other part is how long each shop does x job.

I went from an indy Porsche shop to a reputable SCCA race shop and the hourly rate dropped to almost a half. The quality of work is actually better. This is an option depending on what you need to have done.

The indy I use is $110/hour. Dealerships exceed $150/hour. Also, the indy charges for the actual time spent on the job, while the dealership uses a "book rate" that is inflated for the time allotment.

Out here in CA the average is about $150/hr.

Lots of higher overhead costs in doing business here in CA.
