I have the k40 in my tow vehicle now that I've taken the Boxster off the road and turned it into a dedicated track vehicle. I've used the k-40 for about 5 yrs now on the various Porsche street cars I've owned and have never gotten a ticket. I was dating cop a few months ago, and it was an interesting conversation when I had to explain what those beeping noises were when I turned on my Touareg. LOL

Paolo those new SRT8s are rockets! It's an American Cayenne Turbo. If I'm not mistaken, the tow capacity is 5000 pounds so be careful out there!
I looked at the SRt8 Jeep a few years ago but they put the exhaust in the middle back then and it couldn't be equipped for towing!

The new K40 is an ok radar detector, but the laser jamming abilities of it are very limited. From a protection standpoint I would never purchase one for any of my vehicles. Couple that with the price for the unit, and you are paying Porsche prices for Yugo protection.
Lidatek is out of business. I know one of the inventors of the first Lidatek laser jammer, and have seen it in action. It is a good jammer but is not eye safe. (I had laser safety glasses).
Escorts laser jammers work ok some in real world circumstances, but Escort is more concerned with their radar products and is not investing any resources in laser protection. In the past year there are 4 laser guns that have been released that the escort jammer will not protect you against. New Jersey state police just purchased over 300 of one of these guns and has deployed them in the field. Another of these new guns is so popular they are back ordered 90 days. The two other guns are fairly rare, with most of them being in Georgia, Texas and Canada, although there are some in other states. The Blinder system does not work against 3 of the 4 new guns.
Laser Interceptor is the best last jammer on the market. It jams all currently avaiable laser guns, and does a better job of jamming the laser guns that all of the systems jam.

Three Wheelin'
I got a message from Erik this morning about the thread. I have a passion for "legally" interfering with speed enforcement devices despite my law enforcement background. I come at this with an interesting perspective having been on both sides of the speed guns. I'm a certified radar operator and have extensive experience conducting speed enforcement from back in my younger days.
While I certainly don't condone reckless driving on public roads, being pulled over for doing 8mph over the speed limit is just ridiculous. I've invested a lot of time exploring different options for avoiding police interactions when in my personal vehicles.
Let me first say that the V1 is hands down the best unit out there. Is is pretty? No, it's hideous. However, it works and works really well. I've ridden with people running the latest greatest escorts and the V1 still alerts earlier. The arrows are indispensable once you get accustomed to how they work. It would be nice if they could find a way for it not go berserk when in a shopping plaza, but I'll deal with it for now because of the piece of mind I get from using it.
With respect to laser jamming units, there are three different ways of doing it. You can stealth your car using various films or sprays. Generally worthless. A good laser operator will just rotate the beam around to find a weak spot on your car and lock it anyway if they want you bad enough.
The next step is to go with a laser diffuser such as escort , k40, or blinder. They use LED's. They work, sort of... The LED's are pulsed in such a fashion to confuse the laser gun. The problem with LED's is that they lack any serious intensity when compared to a laser diode.
Which brings me to the best and most expensive way of doing this. Going with a unit that actually uses laser diodes. The intensity is far stronger than a LED setup. So much so that there are warnings all over it to not engage the unit while looking at them Essentially what happens with the laser diode units is that it senses what type of gun is being shot at it, and then fires laser beams back at it causing the gun to jam. Sounds very star wars
There used to be a couple different European variants that offered real laser diodes. As far as I know, the only one that is still in business is Laser Interceptor. The other ones worked too, but are no longer available from what I can tell.
Is the LI with the V1 as pretty an install as the escort or the K40. No... However, do you want it stealth or do you want it to work? I see so many dealers hiding the laser heads etc... Basically completely ruining their efficacy.
Through all this I've come to personally know the owner of LI USA. His name is Cliff. Great guy and really stands behind his products. I've tested many different units against many different guns and hands down, the LI is the only one that works and works well. It very expensive compared to its competitors (LED), but in this instance you really get what you pay for. Mine have paid for themselves over and over again with saves. For a while I was driving 40k miles a year so naturally the odds were against me.
If anyone is interested, I can hook you up with Cliff and probably get you a small discount. Just send me a PM.
Here's a test I did a couple years back. It really shows just how well the LI works.

There are a number of speed trap locations on my way to work. It's pretty much the same place every time. It's almost comical when I go through. Lots of blank stares as they can't figure out why the gun isn't working

Unfortunately the mounting of the heads is critical. They have to be perfectly level and straight. Its almost difficult to get it right with a permanent install.
If anyone is tight with the mods, I can put a GB together for you guys. I've done it before on other forums. We would need permission first and I don't really know who to ask.
Lidatek was the other true laser diode jammer I was thinking of earlier. They were a good unit. Unfortunately they are out of biz. Fortunately LI has filled that void with a comparable product

When I look down at the speedo in my TRUCK and then look up at the caravan of crazy bastards I know pulling away from me while i'm doing 80..... we need protection. I did notice while in FL you people drive like you have never seen rain... or paved roads, so maybe it's a more calm place to be....
