Champ Car used the same kind of truck before every session to clean off the track.

This isn't the first time one of them was hit (in either series) just the first explosion.

what are the chances someone is going to hit a safety truck, with flashing lights on a 2.5 mile course in a place away from the crowd, out of view of a camera while under caution for something else.

Yes there is quite a bit of grip most places, at speed anyway. Going around the banking at 50 - 60 under caution is pretty scary though. Seems like the car is going to slide down at any moment.

There are no DOUBLE yellows on tracks without right turns, only full course yellows.

Anyone recall the name of the recent thread that had a bunch of the posters like Raptor posted in this one?

Yep, but I heard they have a special committee to develop those high tech things for NASCAR in about 10-20 years from now...
(sorry, I had to... )

I'm not sure how much jet fuel those things burn so not so surprised but when the announcers were talking about the truck having an extra large tank for diesel so that it doesn't have to refuel during the race, I found that a little weird...

I mean even, let's say at 10 mpg (I have no doubt it's actually better since they practically cruise around 10 mph or something) with the regular F-350 long bed tank of 38 gallons, their range is 380 miles...
I mean sure, NASCAR does do a ton of laps under double yellow but still...

Maybe it's a special tank due to issues with the high banking? A stock F350 issn't designed to be at that angle.

Could be although even with that angle, they should be ble to get 200-300 miles out of it, I dunno, maybe it's for the weekends like this when they have to do multiple beer runs to local liquor store?

First NASCAR race I've watched in about 10 years. Probably the last I will watch for the next 10 years.

Run a couple of laps under green. Run the next 15 under yellow. Run a couple of laps under green. Run the next 15 under yellow.

Just skip to the end and run the Green/white/checkered and save a lot of boredom.

Yawn!

Hold on!
Not to hi-jack a thread, but I believe VR's avatar may have just been trumped by ltusler's.
