A NEW TREND IN RACING ?
NARRA came with a curious announcement Today:
"Avoidable contact can quickly become expensive, both for the driver receiving the hit as well as those causing the contact. Conscious of this, the North American Road Racing Association has taken steps to deter, and hopefully eradicate, paint swapping in its ever popular and competitive US GT Championship.
To keep things clean, and ensure drivers think twice before sticking their nose in somewhere it shouldn't be, General Manager Rob Morrison and renowned steward Terry Earwood have developed a policy which puts accountability back on the driver at fault and makes them financially responsible for the damage caused to another car."

What do you think ? May create a new way to judge who's "at fault"... ;0)

How many times have we watched video on this board from more than one source, and ended up arguing over fault?
People will end up going to court. The lawyers will profit.

The Viper SRT Cup applies this rule since a while ago I believe and it seems to work. In one incident a friend had in this series they even paid the damages themselves and took care of getting the money from the other guy !

Plus, when everyone is in a different car with different preperation, you make the poor people take the financial risk/expense that the more funded take. I'm all for you put as much into a car as you are willing to lose.

This concept seems silly. I can't imagine if PCA did this with multiple classes in one run group. Can the class then choose which run group they get to race with. I would rather damage a spec 944 then a cup car. Would they class cars not on performance but replacement costs, or the drivers net worth?

I had a wreck a few years ago that was for the most part my fault. I sought out the other driver, and paid for part of his repairs. Voluntarily. I didn't think I HAD to do that, but I felt that it was the right thing to do. I would like to think that a lot of others would do the same if they were in the same circumstance. But I accept that not all will do this, and I live with the risk associated with that.
I'd much rather see sanctioning bodies penalize repeat offenders with loss of license than with money.
