Oh - this definitely needs to happen (even if it won't really be better than Lime Rock) ...
As for the golf course, I'll gladly lifting while the golfers are teeing off
I hope their plan works out!

I raced there once in '70 and once in '72, both years in formula cars. Pretty rough trach then, and not particularly safe, as I recall.
Would be great to get it back, if it were modernized and made safer.

Not necessarily. There's a terrific Pete Dye designed golf course that's built next to and through (a couple of holes are actually located in the infield) a little track in Indiana, you may have heard of it ... Indianoplis Motor Speedway. I understand it gets pretty noisy there.
Around the country (and the world) there are golf courses built in proximity to major interstates, airports, railroad tracks, etc.
St. Andrews is located in the middle of that Scotttish village.

Ron,
From a liability standpoint, it would be negligent (possibly grossly so) to construct or re-vitalize a motor raceway that fails to incorporate within its design up-to-date and "state of the art" safety features. I'd guess the property would either be uninsurable, or considered such a high risk that the cost of insurance would render the project impractical.

I have played golf at Thompson while there was a stock car race going on. I thought it was cool to look down from a green and see the race. The noise was not a problem. Golfers get used to it, you don't notice it except for a couple holes. And let me add that "Raceway" is NOT in the TPC caliber of courses. http://www.racewaygolf.com/

Word on the street is that this thing is a GO. Apparently there is a very complete plan of action and great interest in resurecting the place. !!!!

I can confirm that this project is going to happen and they are planning on breaking ground this fall after the oval racing season ends and they are planning to be open for july 1st. 1.7 mile similar layout as the original course but with some additional areas added and a lot of the turns reworked to make them safe. An autocross area and skid pad are also in the plans i believe

I would guess you have to read between the lines. If they build the road course, they probably won't be able to do the weekly circle track racing. I believe the faimly owns the golf course too.
