How to shave off 3 seconds at Barber!
Previously my personal best at Barber was a 1:39.925 set on April 21st of this year. Since then, I have not done anything to the car. In July, I worked with Seth Thomas at Road Atlanta and it was a great weekend. My biggest issue (and I new it), was corner entry speed. I had a great weekend with Seth, and set my personal best at RA in very hot conditions. I did not have a chance to drive on track again till this weekend with PBOC at Barber.
Saturday was chilly but perfectly sunny. Got to grid early and headed out. It took the outlap and one hot lap to get some heat in my tires. On lap three, I was amazed to see a 1:38.02, a new personal best. The next two laps were not as good, but lap 5 turned out to be a winner, a 1:36.793. I just about **** myself, and was sure that my trackmate must be wrong, that is until I saw the same time on the scoring sheet. I've attached my trackmate data below, showing my previous hot lap (1:39.9 in pink) and the new hot lap (1:36.7 in green). Did I mention that I was on Hankooks Z214 with 10 heat cycles
The 1:36 put me in 5th on the grid for the enduro and I managed to gain two positions during the race to finish 3rd overall and 1st in class (R4). What really pleases me is the fact that 32 of my 46 laps (in traffic) were sub 1:40 and that's something that I had only done once before.
Sunday did not turn out as well, on the second hot lap of the race I lost the back end coming out of the kink and had to lock it down hard. Slide sideways for what seemed an eternity but never touched the armco (although that's all you see in my vid, will post later). I dont' think I've ever flat spotted tires anywhere near that amount before, steel belts were cut down and I'm amazed they are still holding air. Guess I'm just glad that I didn't hit anything and no one hit me

Dave, good seeing you again. Let me know what you think of the data. The data suggest, like you said at the track, that I'm leaving time at the kink. What else?

Here's what i see: you made a big improvement in your braking impulse in T2, but IMO you can still reduce 9soften) your braking impulses (and thus carry even more entry speeds) in T1, T7, and T12, especially with that wing you have...

Nice job Tim. The big benny from learning faster entry is massive time drops with less hardship on the car. You know your pushing when you feel a bit nervous before the apex. Once you get used to the technique you will actually pick up even more time (not as much).
