The 2013 Formula 1 Pre-Season Thread
Now that the excitement of 2012 is behind us it's time to look at next year...
Testing starts in 16 weeks and the season begins on 3/15 in Australia.
Here's some news from this week. Looks like Turkey is out and the A1-Ring is in for the 20th GP of the year.

Looking forward to it. Bought the F1 timing app yesterday .. It's $15 off until dec 31.
Great app - get the splits and who's pitting before the talking heads even mention it.
And no, I'm not affiliated

It's been 4 years since Mclaren of Ferrari have had the outright fastest car for most of the season. Luca said it best - his team had the most reliable car, made very few mistakes in terms of strategy, and made good pit stops. What they lacked was pace. Looking forward to see who the first one is to stop the Newey train.

anybody but Vettel, I'm sick to death of seeing that finger (but then Marko probably loves that finger)
I want to see Ferrari or McLaren stop the Newey train
I really want to see Mercedes raise their game, not so much for Lewis' sake but for Ross and Nico's

Pirelli says their 2013 tires will be much softer -- basically returning to the same wear rate as the start of the 2012 season vs. the end of 2012 when teams were doing only a 1 stop race. Results: tires will get up to temps much more quickly for qualifying, lap times will fall off a cliff once used up forcing multiple pit stops and a high build up of "clag" off line that could affect passing opportunities mid to late points of the race.

The A1-Ring is a beautiful setting- always loved watching a race from there, even though the former layout claimed the life of my favourite driver in August 1975...
I'm sure Ferrari would have a cat racing at a track named Red Bull Ring though...
I love the Turkey track too though- my favourite Tilke track. Either one would be fine with me. I'll be sure to let Bernie know!

Hopefully the update to the A1-ring is done and/or used next season .... I thought that track was boring as hell. Lots of straights connected with a few 90deg turns..

I don't mind seeing F1 to have a race there next season although I'd prefer Turkey, I mean the only really good F1 track Tilke has created (Austin is pretty good too) and of course that's the one where F1 doesn't race!

It would've been interesting to see how much Donohue would've achieved had that sad day not happened, amazing driver.

re: COTA , the layout was conceived by Tavo Hellmund and 1993 Motorcycle World Champion Kevin Schwantz with the assistance of German architect and circuit designer Hermann Tilke. Tilke is getting too much credit for this track, not only is Hellmund suing COTA but Schwantz is as well.
