Hehe, gotta love the parts where he's going sideways towards a narrow gate.

Looks pretty fun.

I like roads like that with the trees nice and close. Keeps you honest.

I would get sick if I was sitting in that right hand seat....takes a very special (and trusting) person to do that...

I've never gotten ill in the right seat but I think I would in this case. Yikes. Although the first part would be easy to navigate, just stay between the trees.

I don't follow modern rally racing as close as I should, but I wonder where the modern rally racing world would be if the Group B cars were still allowed to compete.

In their 1980's form? I'll bet the advances in general car building and suspension technology would have the current field comfortably ahead.

As developed into the modern era? How many people (competitors and spectators) would need to have been killed before the FIA, let alone local authorities, would put a stop to the nonsense?

(I'm sure we could have a similar discussion about F1/Indy/NASCAR. Having just watched Senna again, I'm amazed how absolutely obsolete the tracks looked in their day. Days that I remember personally from running our local "world class" tracks.)

OK, now I've gone and watched it. How much different is this, than what John Buffum was doing nearly 40 years ago in a '73RS?

I did some runs up in the Mendocino Forest off of old route books in my Scirocco back in the '70s, and from what I remember the logging roads used for that rally were similar. And yeah, I was going about 10% of that speed, dreaming that we could but a crappy RX-2 together and make it out there...........

Ken Block has made one helluva transition from sneaker guy to rally racer.
