And Porsche has created a micro-site documenting their history at The 24 Hours - http://www.porsche.com/microsite/mission2014/usa.aspx? Some pretty cool stuff.

Far more interested in the Audi cars at LeMans.
This effort just seems "me too".

"Me too"? Audi was the original Me Too when they decided to do LeMans way back in the late '90's.....Even used Joest which had run Porsches LeMans efforts for years...

why does it have the AM LMP1 intake/grill?

otherwise I like it. I'm really looking forward to Porsche returning to LMP1. it's a damn shame NASCAR won in the US and we won't get to see it here regularly (except for WEC, if they keep coming back).

Well we only have to worry about AM in the GT class as they have come on like a mean **** in the past couple years...

Here is our stiff competition, some things pretty similar. Wonder how much it will evolve throughout the year and winter months before it's first WEC or even an ALMS race. IMO, I think they need to give it more of a personality with the LEDs...they seem to Ultima GTR. Audi has mastered the LED lights on cars.

Porsche is no longer an independent auto manufacturer.
That failed, they tried to take over VAG, now they are simply a (premium) VAG brand, best known for Cayennes (based on units sold)

Audi has an incredible record at LeMans, so why does Porsche have to follow Audi to LeMans in Prototypes?

This just looks like the Lemans equivalent of Lexus (Audi) and Toyota (Porsche).

IIRC Porsche had fully committed to their own prototype program well in advance of the VAG buyout/merger.

It must be driven by marketing and branding, not engineering.
Comparing Audi to Porsche at LeMans (in prototypes) is sort of like comparing Red Bull Racing to Toro Rosso.
Audi is the A team, Porsche is the Junior B team.

Yes, I know Porsche's storied HISTORY at LeMans, but that was a long long time ago.
Dr. W. had no interest whatsoever in racing (he also said there would never be a Porsche diesel, but I digress), but he allowed the 911 Cup Cars to continue.

Still puzzled by this move.
